Things that are both Not Good

First Not Good Thing: Dang it all, I thought I could avoid the new google blogger, and somehow I cleverly did last time I posted. Unfortunately I couldn’t remember how I did it last time, so I had to go and switch in order to post a new post.

Second Not Good Thing: My huge senior project involved creating design pieces for a tour for the band Over the Rhine. I have put images of everything I created up here, in order that I might illustrate my frustration with the critique I received last night during class. Basically people said that it didn’t fit together. That the advertisements and the posters weren’t unified enough. So they wanted it all to look the same as the poster. Also, the colors on the posters are apparently jarring. I am so sick of looking at these things that I can’t bear to open the file until tomorrow.

So there you have it. Things will be changing for the ads, so that they look more like the posters. I have to take out the bottom part of the posters since people thought it was snakeskin, and make the umbrella more contrasted since people didn’t get that it was an umbrella. Boobs.

One big gripe against this dang Google blog crap: DUMB QUOTES!!! This font defaults to dumb quotes, aka INCH marks. Observe:

DUMB QUOTE: "
SMART QUOTE:

Yes, I did go through this entire post and change the quotes. That involves the following keyboard strokes: option shift bracket. Instead of one button, I have to press three to get the correct typographic symbol for contractions and quotations. Sigh, my life is difficult.

Important dates for anyone still reading who loves me and wants to know these things:
Senior Show: Thursday, April 19th, 5-7 pm, Alumni House
Graduation: April 28th at 3 pm.

I wouldn't call this art history

Ok, so I should be composing my brilliant 200 word proposal for my equally brilliant Medieval Symbolism research/synthesis paper. However, I have been researching sacred art in the middle ages and the modern religious art movement in the 50s for nigh on 2.5 hours. My brain is bruised. I was in the computer lab in the Steelcase Library in downtown GR until a few minutes ago, whereupon I rented a laptop and moved into the main library room. It's really a gorgeous interior, high ceilings, stained glass, chandeliers, tall bookshelves, and cosy lamps. The carpet's a bit of an eyesore though, unfortunately. They say that after staring at a computer screen for extended periods of time you should focus on something far away. I've chosen to look at the snowflakes involved in the blizzard outside the large semicircle window.

Oh HO!!! I've just located the location of the man who printed a 250+ page TOME in the lab, taking all the paper and nearly causing the printer to overheat. When it ran out of paper he stood there for a bit making inquisitory grunts "Huh...", verbalising his thought "Gee, I can't see why there might be a problem with this printer." Seriously, what is with people?? He's taking up an entire table too, I might have known.

Anyways, this really isn't getting me my 200 words, of which I have written...29. I have 1 hour and 55 minutes to email it to the instructor. Yes, I'll be logging out now. Sigh. My only consolation is that for every 100 words I write I'll be rewarding myself with a lindt milk chocolate truffle with a smooth white chocolate filling. And maybe a beer when I get home. Hey, I'll have earned it.

Update! Update!

Wow. So yeah it's been awhile since my last post. Sorry about that. I've been a bit busy with a number of things you know. Such as school, work and staying here at a friends' while her husband is in Africa. I babysit for her pretty regularly, so it's been fun. She has three kids, 6, 2 and 6 months, they're pretty cute :) I've been here for two weeks, her hubby gets back tomorrow and everyone is excited. We just took the kids to the mall for dinner and to play at the play place on the giant plastic breakfast foods. It's pretty funny to see kids sliding down a ginormous strip of bacon. Nyuk nyuk. So needless to say I've been pretty busy going from work with kids to the house with more kids to class with big kids.

Managed to crank out an idea for a research/synthesis paper for my capstone class last night and today. I had no idea what I was going to write about, but I eventually came up with the artist's responsibility especially focusing on the art of William Kentridge http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zO7-pjHaL-U

I'm also working on designing collateral for the fake North American tour of the band Over the Rhine, whom I love. So that's fun, a bit daunting, but fun design.

Art history and capstone are a lot of reading, and I have those two classes back to back on thursdays, so basically I feel like a veal by 6 pm. After all the discussion about articles, society, postmodernism, and crazy artists and their hideous art I'm basically ready to explode into a cloud of anti-thought.

So that's it! Blug. I'll try to post more later.
