So yeah...
Ok so I know you hate pee stories, but it happened again yesterday. During gym. This is the first time I've dealt with a full on pee-in-the-pants that was not in the safe environment of the bathroom in our classroom. I had taken Boy#1 to the bathroom and come back and the gym teacher said that Girl needed to go the bathroom. I say "Ok Girl, let's go I'll take you now." Girl shakes her head and says she doesn't have to go anymore. This happens a lot with 3 and 4 year olds. It never happens to me. When I have to pee, I have to pee, it doesn't go away, unless I go pee. So Boy#2 chirps up that he has to pee, I receive visual confirmation in the form of the universally standard pee dance. I take him. When I say "take", for boys I really mean "escort" since we have to use the older kids bathrooms near the gym. I wait outside the door and listen for the toilet and the sink for hand washing and I usually look pretty silly. It's even funnier when an older boy has to go to the bathroom and here's Miss Mishler standing outside the door.... So when the boys come out I then perform a sniff test to make sure they used soap. I jokingly tried to sniff-test an 8th grader, but I don't think he thought it was funny. Some of the boys have tried just turning the water on, how they think that would convince me is beyond me, since they have very little hand-drying skill in our classroom. Suddenly they're coming out of the big kid bathroom with perfectly dry and warm hands....yeah. So anyways...I return to gym with Boy#2 after a hand-washing bust, and am ready to engage in the game that involves hoola hoops and whiffle balls when Girl#2 shouts from the other end of the gym "SHE MADE A MESS!!!!!!" I come over and see Girl standing in her hoola hoop in a very large, very wet, very urine-esque Lake Girl. She of course denies any involvement in said Lake. Right, Honey you're standing in the puddle, your pants are soaked, and you smell. I wonder if you had anything to do with the "mess." Girl looks at me and says "I don't have to go potty anymore." I wanted very much to say "No Sh*t." But I didn't. Instead Girl and I start heading towards the door to once again put the Reserve Ugly Clothes to use. What do you think happened on my way to the door with Girl in tow? yes! "Miss Mishler I gotta go potty real bad" says Girl#3, who has interestingly enough been involved in several pee-incidents. So I grab her along and head back to the classroom with one kid who's about to burst and another who already has. So I allow Girl#3 to go in our classroom while Mrs. C finds some ugly clothes for Girl, I take Girl into the office bathroom, much to the amusement of the secretary. Unfortunately I couldn't find any gloves in the office bathroom. Imagine how fun it is to peel soaking wet clothes off of a 3 year old. Including the socks...oh nastiness. So I finally get her into dry clothes, we have to put her snow boots on since her shoes are soaked too. I put her dirty clothes into a Meijer bag and throw them under her hook. End of story right? Ha, no. Dismissal is a very wild time, especially when the kids have just come in from outside and are completely incapable of moving whilst wearing their snow-gear. Sometime I'll tell you about the fun you can have dressing 15 three year olds in their snow things. So it's only natural that a mix-up happened. Girl#4, whose hook is right next to Girl's, thought the bag under the hooks was her bag of Santa's Secret Shop presents. Sometime I'll tell you about the fun you can have convincing 15 three year olds to pick out presents for someone other than themselves. So Girl#4 stuffs the bag of Girl's sopping clothes into her backpack and thinks no more of it, until she gets in the car and wants to show her "wrapped up surprises" to her mom. Well. Yes. It was a surprise. Fortunately Girl#4's Mom has a good sense of humor and returned the bag to the classroom pronto. I laughed long and hard about that one. Long and hard.
