All Your Base...
Well...it's been one month and one day since my last post, so I suppose I should update the few people who might randomly wander here.
First, Christmas: What a grand ol' time. This year no one was in the hospital, so that was a nice treat. It was in a way our first Christmas at our new house and not in Steubenville. Last year there were so many sick people that it didn't really feel like much of a celebration what with driving to pick this person up from the hospital or taking that person to the ER. It was also my first Christmas as a non-student, so it felt very strange not having two weeks of break. The day after Christmas I was back at work and it was business as usual. We had our second Hymn Sing, where we sang a myriad of carols more or less beautifully. The Cous and I balanced our family gatherings rather well, and I was in my first Cousino Family Picture. For the first time in I think 5 years, I was not the one taking the photo. Christmas Vigil Mass was beautiful, and the music was astounding (yay my brother was in the choir!). We spent Christmas day at my family's house, opening presents in the morning and playing Pinochle and cooking all day. All in all, a wonderful time of familyness.
Next, Fonts: Copperplate has remained rather steadily in the forefront of my Font spottage. I've seen a disturbing rise in Papyrus, including in people's Christmas letters. Sad sad sad. On the plus side of things I have spotted over the last few days many a Rosewood (fill and standard) and even a Mrs Eaves! Distressingly, Tempus Sans is making a steady increase in appearances on menus and MS Publisher brochures. Naturally, Bank Gothic remains the favorite among action/adventure/thriller movies, banks (groan...), and book jackets.
Lastly, a story about drums: The last sunday of Advent I was on the music team along with Dad on guitar, Mom on violin, and Dan on bass. It was a regular family event. Of course there was also the leader Irene and her daughter singing, Claudia on drums and Chris on the keyboard. Well, for the offertory song Chris had set the keyboard down two steps since his copy was in a different key. Somehow when he changed the settings back for the Sanctus he inadvertently turned on a drum kit. Oh yes...so we begin the song "Holy...holy...holy....." and then we heard the most amazing Abercrombie-esque drums "boom boom bachick boom boom baCHICK." Chris had no idea it was him, he thought it was Claudia, but Mom and I looked up and she was just sitting there with her hands up "It's not me!" So I leaned over Chris and said "Uh...I think you're on drums!" So he immediately stops playing and tries to figure out what he turned on, alas to no avail because every time he tried to come back into the song the drums came too! Then Claudia came in on the real drums and he thought that it was him again... Poor guy, then he had to do the intro for the memorial acclamation and we were all so nervous that the drums would return...but somehow he had fixed it and the fake drums went bye bye for the rest of Mass. Ah, it was great. Poor Chris, I hope he wasn't too embarassed. I've really been enjoying doing music, I've missed playing at UCO every week and my callouses are feeling significantly weaker.
gads! it's 11:27 and I'm still awake! This, dear readers, is quite an amazing feat for me. I intend to sleep until 11 tomorrow....genius.
Until we meet again! Adieu!
